• Reese Witherspoon is a really happy mother.
• She revealed how it felt to send her son Deacon to college.
• She shared a collage of images and videos depicting his dorm life there.

At the Your Place or Mine premiere in Los Angeles on Thursday night, the actress, 46, talked with PEOPLE about how it felt to send her son Deacon, 19, to college, whom she had with her ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

“It means you did your job right,” she said. “And I’m so proud of my kids. They’re thriving in the world and I’m so happy for them.”

Deacon, who is currently enrolled at New York University, recently shared a collage of images and videos depicting his dorm life there.

In one picture, he was seated on his dorm bed with a lit-up shattered heart and a red EMBIID 21 basketball jersey on the wall behind him.

“In flow” he captioned the post, which also showed his view of the city at sunset outside his dorm room. Deacon has also been sharing some snippets of a song that he’s been working on in the dorm called “Guess” in several other Instagram posts.

The teenager is following in his parents’ footsteps and seeking a career in the entertainment industry after graduating from high school in the spring of 2022.

In addition to making his acting debut in the third season of the popular adolescent series Never Have I Ever on Netflix, he has already taken the first steps in his career as a music producer with the release of his hit single “Long Run” in 2020.

Deacon previously spoke with Interview magazine in December 2020 about his love of producing and how his father, who is also a musician, encouraged him to enter into the field.

“When I was listening to the radio in the car with my dad, something just clicked. I realized there’s more to making music than just being a vocalist, and that a lot of times it’s the production that makes me feel something,” he explained. “I asked my dad about how it works, and he taught me all the stuff he knew, and then I started watching YouTube videos.”
