According to local officials quoted in the Bild newspaper, a youngster was hit and carried by train along a railway line in Recklinghausen, a town in western Germany on Thursday, killing one and critically hurting another.
Police said that several young individuals had been hurt in a railway collision but would not provide more information.
According to Bild, a freight train dragged the victims for several hundred meters (yards). It further stated that the incident occurred between two stations.
Although the cause of the accident and the number of youngsters involved were unknown, local media reports stated that 35 firefighters and rescue personnel had been sent to the accident location, which was next to an old freight yard. Drones were also being used by rescue personnel as they searched the railroad bed for victims.
Police in Recklinghausen declined to specify how many individuals were hurt or whether any had passed away.
