A countrywide electricity breakdown hits major cities including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta as a high-tension power line between Quetta and Guddu tripped, reported BOL News on Monday.
The cities plunged into darkness after the major power outage. As per reports pouring in from different cities of Pakistan, Balochistan, including Quetta, Islamabad, Lahore, cities in Multan region, Karachi and others have been facing the issue.
The Ministry of Energy said that the initial reports revealed the system frequency of the National Grid decreased at 7:34 this morning, which resulted in a widespread breakdown in the power system.
Energy Minister Khurram Dastgir said that the government was hoping to restore electricity in the country by 10 PM. Later, he announced that power supply has been partially restored in many parts of the country including Islamabad, Quetta, Lahore, Multan and Karachi.
In Sindh, many areas including Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur, Naushero Feroze and Khairpur Nathan Shah witnessed power breakdown for over 12 hours. There were also reports of mobile phone signals and internet transmission being interruption in several areas.

The ministry then updated that the electricity was restored in multiple grid stations in urban areas of Islamabad and Peshawar. However, consumers reported facing outages in many parts of the country as they braved extreme winters and shortages of gas.
Balochistan
The outage hits 22 districts of Balochistan including Quetta.
Islamabad
The supply to 117 grid stations was suspended in the early hours of Monday.
Lahore
Multiple areas in Lahore are facing electricity outages.
Karachi
K-Electric spokesperson Imran Rana said that at approximately 7:34 AM, the national grid experienced a loss of frequency, affecting the power supply to multiple cities across Pakistan
