John Pearce, 31, joins the group as “Big Strong John,” the new purple Wiggle who loves fitness and works out while singing along with the group.
Pearce’s act has gone viral, with many parents, specifically thirsty moms, complimenting “Big Strong John” for more than just the amusement he is giving young viewers.
Pearce’s Instagram postings’ comments speak for themselves. One woman commented on a video depicting Pearce changing from his buff, tattoo-covered persona into “Big Strong John,” saying, “Oooh safe to say I will be tuning into this season.”
On TikTok, pearce receives the same kind of attention, with one user writing, “For the mothers, you are here. Zaddy, yass.” “Where can I see the Wiggles perform? Where can my kids watch, specifically?” another composed.
On a video showing Pearce changing into the purple Wiggle, a viewer commented, “I do not recall the fruit salad being this wonderful growing up.” Pearce is not exactly new to the spotlight; in 2010, he and Justice Crew took home the competition’s top prize.
Three women Indigenous Australian performer Evie Ferris, Ethiopian actress Tsehay Hawkins and Chinese-Australian Kelly Hamilton joined at the same time as Pearce. The cast’s diversity was the first of its kind, and founding member Anthony Field said that the move was important for inclusivity.
“The Wiggles were created during a time when early childhood educational concepts were the focus,” Field said in a statement. “As society has evolved, we have embraced the need for diversity and inclusiveness and want children all over the world to see themselves reflected on the screen.”
