Rishi Sunak defended the most recent distribution of leveling-up funds, which saw the south-east of England receive more than the north-east due to its greater wealth.

According to the prime minister, the north had received the most money per resident.

The administration has also claimed that the south needs investment because some areas are impoverished.

Labor asserted the north-east England claims an unjust funding mechanism made it “one of the great losers.”

The government’s Levelling Up Fund has provided funding to 111 different regions throughout the UK.

The Eden Project in Morecambe, Lancashire, will receive £50 million to assist in transforming a deserted coastal location into an ecotourism destination.

Additionally, a new direct train route connecting Cornwall’s biggest urban centres will be built with a £50 million grant.

But boroughs in London will receive more funding than either Yorkshire or the north-east of England.

To support the initiative, Mr. Sunak is doing a promotional tour of the north of England, beginning with Accrington, Lancashire, which is receiving £20 million to upgrade its town square.
