- Celsius found guilty of violating agreement and withholding info.
- Flo Rida expresses gratitude and newfound respect for legal system.
Rapper Flo Rida sued Celsius energy drinks in Florida, and a jury there found in his favour, awarding him $82.6 million in damages.
A jury convicted Celsius guilty on Wednesday of violating a 2014–2018 endorsement agreement with Flo Rida. The jury determined that the company deceitfully withheld information from him.
Tramar Dillard, better known as Flo Rida, expressed gratitude to the jury, court, and his lawyers in a statement, adding that he now has “new respect for the judicial system.”
“This was a long journey, but we prevailed. From the start, I only wanted what I worked for, nothing more, nothing less,” he said in the statement, adding that he was “instrumental in the Celsius that you know and love today.”
The rapper, whose hits include “Right Round” and “Whistle,” brought the legal action in 2021, claiming that Celsius owed him millions in additional shares and royalties as per the terms of their agreements.
John Uustal, the lawyer for Flo Rida, claimed during closing arguments that his client had not requested a specific monetary figure in his lawsuit, only the 1% ownership he had been given.
Uustal made a different statement in which he said that he and his client depended on the jury to resolve the “complex legal difficulties” present in the case.
“We said we’d trust the jury to do the right thing, we’d trust the verdict, accept the decision of the jury,” the statement said. “I’m glad, in this case, the jury concluded that Flo Rida should get what he worked for.”
