The hiker who vanished last week in the San Gabriel mountains has been identified as British actor Julian Sands.
In the midst of terrible weather in southern California, the 65-year-old was reported missing in the Baldy Bowl region on Friday.
According to police, avalanche concerns forced ground rescue crews off the mountain last weekend, but drone and helicopter searches are still being conducted.
Mr. Sands is recognised for his work in hit movies and TV shows like A Room With A View, 24 and Smallville.
According to a statement provided to the PA news agency by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office, Mr. Sands was reported missing on January 13 at around 19:30 local time.
The statement continued that the department’s search and rescue teams “responded and initiated a search,” but that their efforts had been impeded by severe weather forecasts and poor trail conditions.
The statement added, “However, we continue to search by aircraft and drones when the weather permits.
As soon as the weather cleared up and it was safe for rescue workers to operate, police stressed, ground searches would be organised.
The force advised hikers to “think carefully and heed warnings” in inclement weather because it had responded to 14 calls on Mount Baldy and in the neighbourhood during the previous four weeks.
Since 2020, Mr. Sands has resided in Los Angeles. He most recently made an appearance in the Peter Capaldi-led drama Benediction.
