The Batman sequel is still in the works, according to director Matt Reeves. The director emphasized in an exclusive interview with Steven Weintraub for the 15th anniversary of Clover field how the new DC Universe plans didn’t prevent him from creating his own little slice of Gotham City.

When Reeves’ The Batman was released last year, it won over both critics and audiences. It amassed a sizable box office (nearly $770 million worldwide), prompting Warner Bros. to soon announce the creation of a sequel and a few spinoff series. The future of the DC Universe, however, became dubious following the Warner Bros. Discovery merger as the firm started to abandon projects in favor of a new 10-year strategy to unite the trademark. Reeves signed a multi-year contract with Warner Bros. Discovery in August of last year, which made us think that his portion of the DC Universe would be secure.

However, James Gunn and Peter Safran, who was hired as co-heads of DC Studios in October, were tasked with creating a cohesive plot for movies, television, and even video games. Even while Gunn and Safran have yet to reveal their ideas for the new DC Universe, they have already made some contentious choices. As of right now, Henry Cavill will not be reprising his role as Superman, Momoa may not play Aquaman in the new DCEU, and Wonder Woman 3 has been shelved. Naturally, we pondered what would become of Reeves’ sequel ideas and Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight.
