Flight tracker says almost 4,600 flights delayed

  • Almost 4,600 flights were delayed across the US as of 14:30 GMT on Tuesday.
  • 21,464 flights were scheduled to depart from US airports today.
  • Mostly domestic – with a capacity of nearly 2.9 million passengers.

Airlines will be working to get some of the 21,464 flights planned to leave airports today in the air as flights start to restart around the US.

According to data from Cirium, the maximum capacity of these flights—which are primarily domestic—is close to 2.9 million passengers.

Without providing any justification, the flight tracking website FlightAware indicated that as of 14:30 GMT, about 4,600 planes were delayed within, into, or out of the US.

Around 800 more domestic, international, or transit flights were cancelled.

The system that informs pilots to potential hazards on flight routes experienced a bug today, which caused planes across the US to be delayed.

Following the Federal Aviation Administration’s announcement that flights can restart, airlines must operate with significant delays for passengers.
