Jair Bolsonaro supporters begins to disband after Brasilia riots

  • Supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro have begun to flee Brasilia.
  • At least 400 people have been detained as a result of the violence in Brazil’s capital.
  • The country’s justice minister said everyone involved will be identified and “face justice”.

Supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro have begun to flee the city of Brasilia after looting rioters seized important federal buildings on Sunday.

After Bolsonaro supporters invaded the Capitol, the Supreme Court, and the Planalto Presidential Palace to demonstrate against his replacement, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, they were spotted packing up their tents and making their way to buses parked outside the Military Headquarters in the city.

According to Brazilian police, at least 400 people have been detained as a result of the violence.

It happened after the Minister of Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court, Alexandre de Moraes, instructed the military on Sunday to remove all Bolsonaro supporters’ camps around the nation within 24 hours and instructed police to detain and imprison any demonstrators who were still present.

A heavy police and military contingent circled the informal camps as protesters left on Monday, without arresting anyone. Reupdated media outlet has reached out to the Federal District Security Department for comment.

The country’s justice minister, Flávio Dino, said Monday that everyone who “participated in or financed serious crimes this Sunday” are being identified and everyone will “face justice” as soon as Monday or the coming days. Dino added that authorities have identified the license plates of the buses who brought “criminals” to Brasília.

“Many have been apprehended and others will be,” the minister added.
