Cornwall space launch viewing details released

  • Tickets for UK’s first orbital space launch from the UK have gone on sale.
  • The viewing area is located across the runway from the Spaceport hangar.
  • There won’t be any parking on the property.

People may now witness the first orbital space launch from the UK thanks to information that has been made available.

On Monday at 21:00 GMT, the Start Me Up mission will be livestreamed on Virgin Orbit’s YouTube account.

As soon as they became available, all of the observation area tickets at Cornwall Airport Newquay were gone.

The launch window opens at 22:16 and Spaceport Cornwall said “we are making history, and we want to make sure you can witness it happen”.

The viewing area is located across the runway from the Spaceport hangar and there will also be a big screen, refreshments, toilets and a silent disco on site.

The Spaceport said: “Although it will be dark, you’ll still be able to witness some aspects of the launch and experience the sounds and smells that come with it.”

There won’t be any parking on the property, and the only way to get to the viewing area is through park and ride.

The two park and ride locations, located at Watergate Bay and Tregunnel Hill in Newquay, will be open as of 18:00.

Several traffic restrictions will also remain in effect all night long.

Tickets holders are recommended to bring seats and warm clothing, however umbrellas are not allowed close to the active airfield.

Between 21:45 and 22:45 is the anticipated departure time for Cosmic Girl, the 747 that has been modified to carry the rocket containing the satellites.

Between 22:54 and 23:54, LauncherOne will then be fired off the coast of Ireland.

On Tuesday, between 0:00 and 01:00, Cosmic Girl will return to the spaceport.

However, those hoping to travel to watch the event in person have been warned “there is no guarantee the launch will take place on the first attempt”.
