The nation was outraged by the woman’s horrific death, which occurred on January 1 in Delhi, the capital of India.
According to media accounts, the woman, an event manager, was riding her scooter home from work on January 1 when it collided with a car.
The four other occupants in the automobile, according to the police, were being dragged along for kilometres by the driver.
The body is visible underneath the car in several CCTV videos that have surfaced.
What has taken place thus far?
After receiving two complaints on Sunday morning—one about a woman being pulled by a Maruti Baleno car and another after the woman’s body was discovered lying on a road in north Delhi—police say a search operation for the vehicle was begun.
After beginning a manhunt, they located the automobile and arrested the suspect.
According to senior police official Sagar Preet Hooda, the defendants have been charged with negligent homicide and caused death by negligence.
According to authorities, the accused had taken a friend’s car on loan so that he could use it between December 31 and January 1.
They further stated that the suspect fled the area after leaving the victim’s body on the road.
The suspects, who are being held by the police, have not yet spoken.
According to police, a team of forensic experts will inspect the car and they will be transported to the crime scene to “check their version of events.”
Officials added that they will use a dummy to confirm the accused men’s assertion that they were listening to loud music in the car, which would have prevented them from hearing the victim’s screams.
What have the victims’ relatives to say?
The victim’s relatives assert that she was sexually molested before being slain; she was the only earner in her family.
According to the Times of India newspaper, the woman’s mother questioned why the body was discovered naked while her uncle insisted that the way the body was preserved “indicated that she has been sexually molested.”
Locals and family members of the victim demonstrated outside the Sultanpuri police station on Monday, calling for a thorough inquiry into the incident and justice for the victim.
Police authorities have not, however, confirmed that the victim was sexually abused.
A police officer was quoted by the PTI news agency as saying, “False and frivolous media rumours of the incident being a rape and murder case are being spread.”
The woman’s body was delivered on Monday to the Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi for a post-mortem examination. An expert medical panel has been assembled to perform the autopsy. The post-mortem analysis, according to police, could lead to the addition of new charges against the defendant.
Politics surrounding the demise
In the nation’s capital, the issue has also caused a political controversy.
Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party has been protesting the federal government over what they perceive to be lax security in the area. The city’s police force, which is subordinate to the federal home ministry, is independent of the AAP.
Party supporters demonstrated in front of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s office on Monday, calling for his resignation over the matter.

AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said in a statement to the media that one of the five accused was a member of the BJP, which is in power, and accused Mr. Saxena and police officials of “deliberately hiding this information.”
Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister, asked in a tweet earlier in the day that “exemplary punishment” be taken against the defendants, adding that they should not be given a pass even if they have “high political connections.”
The AAP’s criticism has not received a direct response from Home Minister Amit Shah, but he allegedly met with the police commissioner and has demanded a prompt investigation into the event.
Mr. Saxena claimed to be in charge of the probe in the meantime.
In a previous statement, he expressed outrage at the “monstrous insensitivity of the offenders” and added that the “inhuman atrocity” caused his head to hang in shame.
