Robin Roberts and Amber Laign, her girlfriend of almost 18 years, will finally get married in 2023, she revealed on “Good Morning America” on Monday.
“I’m accepting the marriage. The television anchor announced to the author and motivational speaker Gabrielle Bernstein that she and her fiancé were getting married this year, but she had yet to “say it out loud.”
Roberts, 62, said she and Laign, 48, had previously “talked about” getting married but “put it off” when the co-founder of Plant Juice Oils was given a breast cancer diagnosis in late 2021.
Laign encountered problems with chemotherapy before completing radiation therapy in July 2022.
During Monday’s program, Bernstein urged Roberts to “build a wedding vision board,” and the journalist started fanning herself with her note cards.
She made a joke about revealing her “next chapter” with Laign, saying, “I can’t believe I said that.
Although Roberts, who is also a breast cancer survivor, began seeing the couple in July 2005, he did not come out as gay until December 2013.
In 2020, they celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary, and Laign reflected on how she had met the newscaster on a blind date on Instagram.
The former massage therapist said at the time, “Having you by my side is a privilege as we continue to navigate this thing called life. You have the kindest heart and most beautiful spirit than anyone I know. You have often taught me to maintain my humility and to treat everyone with the utmost respect since you never know what they may be going through. Absolutely amazing, I tell you. I adore you a thousand times over.
