Pele got respect and prayers by his fans. When they came out to pay their respects for the late soccer legend Pele.

The three-time World Cup winner’s body was laid to rest on field where he scored some of his best goals. Meanwhile the People walked past it as they said their goodbyes.

The stadium was decorated with Brazilian flags and No. 10 shirts, which is the number Pelé wore on his jersey.  Santos and Brazil. “Eu sou Pelé” (“I am Pelé”), a song recorded by the star, played over and over again. According to the Associated Press. Mourners brought flowers to the stands.

One of them was Gianni Infantino, who is the president of FIFA. He told reporters that every country should have a stadium named after the soccer great.

“I’m here with a lot of feelings, sadness, and a smile because he gave us so many smiles,” Infantino told the AP. “As FIFA, we will honour the “King” by having a minute of silence, and we ask the whole world to do the same.”

The funeral procession will start Tuesday morning at the stadium. Then, people will be carrying his casket through the streets of Santos, and he will be buried at the Memorial Necrópole Ecumênica cemetery.

Edson Nascimento, Pelé’s son, talked about the trip to Santos in a series of Instagram Stories. One with a video of him driving on the highway said, “Taking our king home.” Another person put his hand on the coffin and wrote, “We’re home.”

Meanwhile on Thursday, Pelé’s daughter Kely Nascimento paid her father a tribute on social media.

“Thanks to you, we are everything we are,” she said in an Instagram post. “We love you so much. Rest in peace.”

After hearing that Pelé had died, players, commentators, and world leaders began to pay tribute to him on social media.

Pele helped Brazil win the World Cup three times, in 1958, 1962, and 1970. He is considered by many to be one of the best soccer players of all time.

He stopped playing soccer on October 1, 1977, almost two years after he joined the North American Soccer League’s New York Cosmos. His last match, which took place in New Jersey in front of a record 77,000 soccer fans, was extra special because it was between the Cosmos and the Santos.

Pele played half the game with each club to honour his long career.
