Seven persons have been detained by Gujarat police for allegedly killing a soldier by assaulting him.

According to the police complaint, Melaji Vaghela was attacked after he objected to a video of his teenage daughter being published online.

The attack took place on Saturday night in Gujarat’s Kheda district, claims the police complaint made by Vaghela’s wife Manjula.

Vaghela had gone to the teenage boy’s house to lodge a complaint against him for allegedly posting a video of the girl with his wife, two boys, and nephew. The footage has been referred to as “obscene” in a number of news publications, but the BBC has not been able to substantiate this.

The police complaint claims that the argument turned physical and that the boy’s family members then attacked Vaghela and his family with “wooden sticks” and “sharp weapons” after the altercation.

Vaghela suffered severe injuries and passed away right away. His youngster is being treated for head injuries at the hospital.

The seven suspects are facing accusations, including murder. They have not yet released a statement after being placed in judicial detention on Monday.
