The Princess of Wales held a Christmas carol service in honor of the late Queen. She talked about her “incredible legacy” and how it had “deeply inspired many of us.”
Kate pre-recorded her welcome message earlier this month, as last-minute plans were being made for the holiday concert at Westminster Abbey for more than 1,800 people.
The service, which was filmed and will be shown on television on Christmas Eve, took place on Thursday, December 15, just hours after the last part of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s controversial documentary came out on Netflix.
Kate was with many other members of the royal family, including the Prince of Wales, his children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, and the King and Queen Consort.
The princess, who helped plan the service, talked about the program and said she was “thrilled” to be back at the abbey for a second year.
She told me: “This will be the first Christmas without Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
“Her Majesty loved Christmas because it brought people together and reminded us how important faith, friendship, and family are, as well as how important it is to be kind and caring.
“This year, we’ve invited hundreds of inspiring individuals to the service.
“Those who showcase the power of connectedness and community values, allowing us to continue Her Majesty’s tradition of recognizing and thanking those who have gone above and beyond to support others.
“Her Majesty leaves with us an incredible legacy and one that has deeply inspired many of us.” Kate dedicated the service to the Queen and to “all those who are sadly no longer with us”.
She added: “So, whilst Christmas will feel very different this year, we can still remember the memories and traditions we shared.
“Take time to slow down and celebrate with family and friends all the wonderful things that make Christmas so special.”
