- The film, Luther: The Fallen Sun, opens in March 2023.
Dec. 21, Netflix revealed the first stills from the Luther sequel, revealing what Idris Elba’s crime-obsessed former investigator will be up to next. New images from the March 2023 release Luther: The Fallen Sun show Luther travelling to a number of hazardous locations, including an ice tundra and the London tube tunnels.
As it continues the events of Luther series five with the title character imprisoned and a dangerous serial killer stalking London, the streamer referred to the new film as “an epic continuation of the award-winning television tale.”
“Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him,” Netflix’s description of the film continues, “Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.”
In addition to Elba, Luther: The Fallen Sun stars Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis and Dermot Crowley, who is reprising his role as Detective Superintendent Martin Schenk.
