With Blumhouse Productions, the industry leader in the genre, continuing to add titles to its slate of movies coming out in 2023, horror fans are in for an exciting year.

‘They Listen’, which according to recent reports from production has been planned for a late summer theatrical release on August 25th, is the most recent addition to the already impressive lineup of projects from the production business.

There are no more narrative specifics available about the project, but given that a group of talented individuals has been hired to carry it out, it will undoubtedly be of the same high calibre as other Blumhouse projects.

Chris Weitz, a renowned screenwriter and filmmaker with a resume that speaks for itself, is in charge of the script. For his frequent collaborations with his brother Paul Weitz, Weitz is well known.

They’ve established themselves as a productive team in scripting, directing, and movie making throughout the years. The comedic classic American Pie gave the Weitz brothers their big break, and they swiftly established themselves in Hollywood with other notable successes like the romantic comedy About A Boy from 2000, for which they were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Weitz has directed films in a wide range of genres, showcasing his flexibility. Among his other credits are The Golden Compass, New Moon, A Better Life, and the second Twilight movie.

Weitz has written the screenplays for acclaimed movies like Disney’s Cinderella (2015), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), and the 2017 drama The Mountain Between Us, which is an adaptation of the same-named Charles Martin novel.

His producing credits include the critically acclaimed and commercially successful film The Farewell, whose star Awkwafina won the Golden Globe for “Best Actress – Musical or Comedy.” They Listen is the most recent addition to Weitz’s roster of ongoing projects, which also includes the comedy picture About My Father, written and starring Sebastian Maniscalco and Robert DeNiro.

After starting their journey with 1999’s American Pie, Weitz and star actor Cho will work again on They Listen for the eleventh time. Cho is an Asian-American actor who has achieved numerous firsts, which attests to his indisputable skill.

Fans of Star Trek will recognise him as Hikaru Sulu from the popular franchise’s recent, successful reboot. His other significant works include Columbus and Searching, and his most recent movies include Cowboy Bebop on Netflix and Don’t Make Me Go on Amazon.

Black Lies, Perry Mason, the popular Harry Potter movie, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, and The World to Come are among Waterston’s best-known works. Additionally, she is a cast member of the impending Hollywood historical epic Babylon.

Weitz, who is representing his independent Depth of Fields company, Jason Blum, and Andrew Miano will produce They Listen. Executive producers include Paul Davis, Britta Rowings, Dan Balgoyen, and Bea Sequeira.

The movie They Listen, which is now in Los Angeles production, will have its theatrical debut on August 25, 2023.
