Kanye West, a rapper and fashion designer, has expressed interest in running for president and wants Donald Trump as his running partner. Trump, for his part, dismissed the relevance of a recent meeting with West.

The musician, whose name is Ye, uploaded a swirling sign with “Ye” and the number 24 on his Twitter account on Thursday, probably representing 2024, the year of the next US presidential election.

The rapper then uploaded a video of himself discussing a visit with the former president in Florida this week.

“I think the thing that Trump was most perturbed about (was) me asking him to be my vice president,” West said.

“Trump started basically screaming at me at the table, telling me I’m going to lose,” West said. “I’m like, hold on Trump, you’re talking to Ye.”

Trump, who attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 election he lost to Joe Biden, said last week that he will run for president again in 2024.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Friday about his conversation with West, stating that the two addressed politics “to a lesser extent” than business and that West sought “for advice concerning some of his difficulties.”

Trump stated that they “got along great” and that he advised the rapper “he should definitely not run for President” because “‘any voters you may have should vote for TRUMP.'”

In a previous post on Truth Social, Trump described their Tuesday evening supper at Mar-a-Lago as “brief and uninteresting.”

Trump stated that the rapper called beforehand to schedule the dinner, then “unexpectedly showed up with three of his friends, whom I knew nothing about.”

Trump stated that after eating on the rear patio of Mar-a-Lago, West and his buddies “departed for the airport.”

West had stated on Tuesday night after the dinner that he had asked Trump to join his presidential ticket.

“What you guys think his response was when I asked him to be my running mate in 2024?” West asked.

It was unclear whether the rapper was sincere about his intentions, or if he was seeking headlines after a series of terrible PR actions.

West is an expert at attracting media attention and dabbling in politics. In 2020, he ran for president but received fewer than 70,000 votes, placing him in eighth place.

As a result of West’s anti-Semitic rants, the German sportswear firm Adidas canceled its lucrative partnership with the artist last month.

Adidas later stated that the severing of ties with West prompted them to halve its net profitability expectation for 2022. West assisted Adidas in developing its successful “Yeezy” clothing brand.

Balenciaga and Gap have also severed connections with West, who appeared at a Paris fashion show last month wearing a shirt with the message “White Lives Matter” in response to the Black Lives Matter movement for racial equality.
