Navya Naveli Nanda’s podcast ‘What The Hell Navya’ is back. On her show, Jaya Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan share their personal stories. This week, they discussed menstrual health taboos. Navya asked her mom and Nani about their first periods in the latest episode, Biology: Blessed But Biased. Jaya Bachchan recalled her youth shooting outdoors.

Jaya said it was embarrassing and awkward. “When we used to do outdoors, we had no (vanity) vans, you had to change behind bushes. There were not even enough toilets. It was awkward and embarrassing. Also, you would carry plastic bags, so that you could discard them, keep them in a basket, take them home, and then get rid of them.” Jaya spoke. “just imagine the plight when you have to carry 4-5 sanitary towels with them.”

The actress felt uneasy. She adds, “And then you didn’t have the kind of sanitary towels that you have today, you just stick it on. You had to make a belt with two ends, towels only had loops, to tie tape to it. It was really bad.”

Amitabh told me that Jaya revealed his condition in earlier episodes. She said Mr. Bachchan didn’t want a 9-to-5 wife. The Uunchai actor asked Jaya to work occasionally. Select projects and people. Jaya’s Godmother’s house in Mumbai hosted their wedding.

Jaya said she doesn’t mind if Navya has a child without marriage on the podcast. She said, “I don’t have a problem,”  ‘Maybe I’d like to have a child with you because I like you, so let’s get married,’ she added.
