Daniel Durant talks about his special relationship with Selma Blair

  • Selma Blair and Daniel Durant were both semifinalists on Dancing With the Stars.
  • Daniel is the third deaf performer in the show’s history.
  • The two forged an undeniable bond throughout their time together.

Selma Blair, who had to withdraw from the competition early, and Daniel Durant, a semifinalist on Dancing With the Stars, spoke exclusively about their special relationship.

Selma Blair and Daniel Durant are familiar with hardship.

Daniel, the third deaf performer in the show’s history, and Selma, who fought through her MS diagnosis in a remarkably spectacular way, have both inspired viewers with their different experiences as competitors on the current season of Dancing With the Stars.

Selma’s stint on the DWTS had to stop early due to a doctor’s advice, but Daniel stated the two forged an undeniable bond throughout their time together.

“She was a big fan of mine because of CODA and I was touched,” and Daniel exclusively told, “I knew we would support each other already. We’re in the same community, and we understand each other in some ways. She’s a brilliant actress and seeing her dance was so touching and impressive. I always congratulated her and talked to her.”

Since she left, Selma has kept their friendship alive by encouraging Daniel by sending encouraging comments on his Instagram pictures.

She is there, in spirit and in heart, Daniel said. “Her spirit and her heart are there,” “It makes a big difference. Seeing her support on social media means so much to me. That’s who Selma really is. She’s a beautiful person.”

When asked if he had considered dancing with Selma on the season finale later this month, Daniel’s eyes widened despite the fact that he has his sights set on the Dancing With the Stars quarterfinals, which air live Nov. 14.

Oh, that would be wonderful, he said. “That would be amazing. What a fantastic idea! That one I might have to keep. I’d adore dancing with Selma. To display that to the world would be so awesome.”

Whatever happens with Daniel’s journey on the programme, he will always remember his dance from the Nov. 7 episode, in which he and partner Britt Stewart danced a portion of their routine without music to try to convey to the public what it’s like for Daniel to dance without the benefit of hearing.

Many people in the ballroom, including the judge Derek Hough, were moved to tears by the performance.

Daniel remarked, “We got to show the world, and it was so nice to see the reaction,” “I feel like I’ve touched a bunch of people, especially Derek. I was happy to connect with him about that. I’m just happy to share that with the world.”

Live coverage of Dancing With the Stars begins on Disney+ at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
