Iran citizens to leave Ukraine

  • The move comes after the US and allies said that Iran gave Russia drones to use in Ukraine.
  • Iran keeps denying that it is sending weapons to Russia so that they can be used  in Ukraine.

Iran has told its citizens in Ukraine to leave the country and not travel there because of “intensifying military clashes and increased unrest.” according to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

“Due to intensifying military clashes and increased unrest in Ukraine, Iranian citizens are strongly advised not to travel to this country. At the same time, all Iranians living in Ukraine are advised to leave the country to protect their life and safety,” the statement reads.

The move comes after the US and its allies in Europe said that Iran gave Russia drones to use in Ukraine. Wednesday, Ned Price, a spokesman for the State Department, said that the US has “plenty of evidence” that Iranian drones are being used to attack civilians and important civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.

The White House said that Iranian military personnel went to Crimea to help Russian operations that use drones to attack civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.

Iran keeps denying that it is sending weapons to Russia so that they can be used in Ukraine. Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian tweeted on Friday, “Iran does not send arms to the warring sides in Ukraine and wants the war to end and for people to stop moving.”
