John Boyega rules out the chance of playing the next James Bond

  • John Boyega spoke on a podcast about the possibility of a Black James Bond.
  • The 30-year-old Star Wars actor said he’d be up for the role if given the chance.

John Boyega, who recently spoke on a podcast, a Black person may never be able to assume the role of James Bond.

On the Happy Confused Sad podcast, the actor who plays the title character in the film Woman King was asked about his opinion on taking on the classic espionage role.

He apologized, “I’m sorry, but I’m Black—I don’t know how.

He said, “When you’re Black, I don’t know how that goes. You as a white man grew up in a society as a white man and that’s normal. That’s normal to you. Even the mention of a Black Bond is like ‘Oh, okay,’ ”

But the actor demonstrated a strong desire to accept the MI6 agent part if it were provided. “But, you know, if they give me that call, I’ll be there.”

In a previous interview with Men’s Health, the Star Wars actor made it clear that he was not involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite rumours to the contrary that the 30-year-old actor had covertly filmed a movie for the franchise.

“That’s not in the vision for me now,” he continued, adding, “I want to do nuanced things. I want to donate my services to original indie films that come with new, fresh ideas, because I know it’s real hard to top Iron Man in that universe.”
