A brief video depicting William describing preparations to bring the prize to Boston was used by Kensington Palace to break the news on social media. The Duke and Duchess’ itinerary has not yet been confirmed by the Palace, however T&C is aware that they will both be travelling to the United States and are anticipated to be present at the wedding.

The event, which will be held in early December, will offer five $1 million awards to “Earthshots”—solutions to the problems facing the planet—in five different categories. The five are: Create a world free of waste; Protect and restore nature; Clean up our air; Rejuvenate our oceans.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu stated today that the city was “proud and pleased” to host the honors, and the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation will act as host partners for the occasion. She stated, “In Boston, we’re not just working to strengthen Boston’s capacity to combat climate change—we’re also providing an example for how creative, community-driven climate leadership can alter what’s possible.
