After being shot by a 41-year-old man at an election address, the former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe passed suddenly on Friday. At the time of the incident, Abe was running for office in Nara, in western Japan. Japan’s longest-serving president was Abe.

Soon after he began speaking, he was shot from behind. Abe was taken by helicopter to a hospital for immediate care but had no signs of life. At the hospital, the former PM was later declared dead.

Tweets of condolence began to flood in as soon as Shinzo Abe’s passing was confirmed. A place on the Twitter trends list was reserved for #PMAbe and #RestInPeace.

The former and most senior Japanese prime minister received tributes from people all over the world.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held office twice, from 2006 to 2007 and again from 2012 to 2020. Shinzo announced his resignation in August 2020 because to health issues such a return of intestinal ailment.
