• Israel says it will test bullet that killed Al Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh.
• A U.S. observer will be present for the procedure that could deliver results within hours.
• Palestinians say they have the assurance that Israel will not take part in ballistics tests.

In order to determine whether one of its soldiers shot the Palestinian-American journalist who died; Israel announced on Sunday that it will analyse the bullet; that was used in her death. A U.S. observer would be present for the procedure; which might produce results in a matter of hours.

The Palestinians said they had the information that Israel would not participate in the ballistics.

Washington has not yet responded. To commemorate July 4; there is a holiday weekend in the US.

A visit by U.S. President Joe Biden scheduled for this month has been overshadowed  by the death on May 11 of Al Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh; in the occupied West Bank and disputes between the sides on the circumstances.

The Israeli military is accused by the Palestinians of intentionally killing her. Israel disputes this and claims that Abu Akleh; may have been wounded by errant army fire or by one of the Palestinian assailants; squaring off against its troops.

If it was the Palestinian gunmen or perhaps us who inadvertently killed her; it will become obvious in the next few days or hours; he said, according to Army Radio. We would accept responsibility and express regret if we killed her.

The test would take place at the American embassy in Jerusalem; according to Akram al-Khatib, general prosecutor; for the Palestinian Authority. Al-Khatib said on Voice of Palestine radio that “we obtained guarantees from the American coordinator; that they are to conduct the examination; and that the Israeli side will not take part.”
