PSVR 2 appears to be the most basic virtual reality experience available to date. The first non-promotional image of PlayStation VR 2 shows how sleek it is.

Bit Planet Games tweeted a PSVR 2 image. Although the studio deleted the image, possibly for breaking a Sony NDA, the photo has now been reuploaded on Reddit (opens in new tab).

It shows the headset with two VR 2 Sense controllers, which replace the Move gamepads. Two opaque plastic bags appear like they could hold a USB charging cord or controller wrist straps.

The image doesn’t show the VR headgear in operation, but it shows Sony’s aim for the device. PSVR 2 is compact and portable like its predecessor.

Sense controllers are thicker than PlayStation Move batons, but not huge. Even its plastic wraparound orbs look slim, and the headgear is no bigger than the original VR despite its greater specs.

PSVR 2 is projected to weigh less than 600g. It’s slightly heavier than the Oculus Quest 2 (formerly named Meta Quest 2), but lighter than the 800g Valve Index.

All of these makes PSVR 2 a tiny, mobile VR console. That’s good news for anyone who planned to move the system or feared Sony might make it as big as the PS5. Add rumours of backwards compatibility, and VR 2 seems good.
