- The aid package will include air defence system and artillery support for Ukraine.
- It will bring the total amount of US military aid to Ukraine since Obama took office to nearly $7bn.
- NATO leaders have agreed on a new strategic framework that focuses on the “direct threat” from Russia.
According to US President Joe Biden, the US will shortly unveil a new $800 million military aid package for Ukraine; bringing the total amount provided; since he took office to close to $7 billion.
As Ukraine continues to deal with a Russian invasion in the eastern Donbas region; Biden said the assistance, which would be made public in the coming days; will include an advanced air defence system and artillery support.
He added that the support would last “as long as it takes”; and stated that “the United States is rallying the globe to stand with Ukraine.”
The 30-nation alliance agreed to a new strategic framework; that emphasises the “direct threat” from Russia; and for the first time highlighted the “challenges” faced; by what leaders described as China’s “coercive practises” in a speech; by Biden on the summit’s final day in Madrid, Spain.

The US President also denied claims that some US friends believe; Biden has fallen short of Washington’s promise to reclaim its leadership on the global arena; in light of a number of home crises, such as gun violence, inflation problems; and the reversal of abortion rights.
America is more prepared than ever to lead the world, he declared. I haven’t seen anyone approach me. You haven’t heard them say anything else but “Thank you for America’s leadership… You’ve altered how; NATO and the G7operate,” Biden remarked.
