- Twitter in India has blocked 16 YouTube channels for spreading disinformation related to India’s national security.
- These channels create unrest and panic and were inciting disharmony among people.
- Twitter also withheld the account of Radio Pakistan.
Pakistani embassy accounts on Twitter are blocked in India. Surprisingly, Pakistan’s embassies with offices at the UN, Turkey, Iran, and Egypt; no longer have access to their official Twitter accounts in India. Twitter previously withheld access to Radio Pakistan’s account. Following the banning of these accounts; the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanded the restoration of the accounts used by Pakistani embassies; to access the platform.
This action was done as a result of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting shutting 16 YouTube channels; for disseminating false information about India’s national security; foreign relations, and public order. The MOIB claims that these channels were promoting unrest among the populace. Six Pakistani channels were among the restricted accounts; compared to 10 Indian channels.

As he described it, the Ministry said:
It was discovered that YouTube channels in Pakistan; are in use to spread false information about India; including the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir, and India’s foreign relations; in light of the situation in Ukraine, among others.
In both countries, there are some media outlets that just serve; to further the cause of inciting animosity. While some people have produced it on purpose; others are simply copying them for viewership. Because of this, the relations between the two nations; are progressively deteriorating, therefore it was mature to ban these channels from both nations.
On the other hand, Twitter should reconsider blocking accounts belonging to Pakistani embassies; in other nations that are merely supporting their function.
