After a gay bar shooting, Norway’s police want Pride activities to stop. Following the tragic weekend shooting rampage at an Oslo gay club; Norwegian police said on Monday that all Pride activities; throughout the nation should be postponed due to security reasons. The city’s LGBTQ community had scheduled a memorial event; for the assault victims on Monday outside Oslo Town Hall; which the police had initially allowed. However, they then recommended organisers to postpone the event; because it was in anticipation to draw a sizable crowd. After the incident on Saturday; which resulted in two fatalities and 21 injuries; Norway elevated its assessment of the threat posed by terrorism; to its maximum level.
Police also called for the cancellation of Pride celebrations across the country; citing unnamed information from Norway’s PST police; intelligence department.

Since the queer population is viewed as a “enemy” by extreme Islamists; Pride celebrations should be postponed “till further notice”; according to National Police Chief Benedicte Bjoernland.
The annual Pride celebrations that were scheduled to take place on Saturday have been cancelled; according to Oslo Pride, one of the groups supporting the protest on Monday.
It issued a statement saying, “We are sad that we must once again; announce the cancellation of a Pride event”. “It is incorrect to say that this was intended to be a minor event; as the police assert. We recognise that despite their frustration; people still want to congregate.
