As the G7 leaders assemble, missiles are launching over Ukraine.

  • G7 summit in Germany expected to pledge harsher sanctions against Russia.
  • The G7 summit in Bavaria has agreed to continue providing military assistance to Ukraine.

Ukraine has been hit by dozens of Russian missile strikes, with Kyiv seeing the most intense barrage in months.

One person was killed and four people, including a kid aged seven, were injured when an apartment building in Kiev was destroyed.

Although the assaults were not limited to the capital, Ukraine claims that at least 14 missiles were fired on Sunday targeting the Kyiv region.

The city of Cherkasy and the Kharkiv region were among the other locations affected.

The strikes occurred as the G7 leaders’ three-day summit in Germany got underway, with the Ukraine war at the top of the agenda. They are anticipated to pledge harsher sanctions against Russia and increased military aid to Kiev.

Due to shortages of essential goods from Russia and Ukraine, the war has led to anxiety around the world about rising oil and food prices.

In Kyiv, a sizable explosive crater was left in the playground of a school not far from the apartment building whose top floors were torn apart. Russian citizen mother of the injured girl was also extricated from the wreckage and transported to a hospital, according to officials.

The Tupolev bombers reportedly fired several missiles over the Caspian Sea, some 1,450 kilometres (900 miles) away, according to the Ukrainian military. And on Saturday, it claimed, Tupolev aircraft flying over Belarus’ neighbour fired Russian missiles.

In the provinces of Chernihiv, north of Kyiv, and Zhytomyr and Lviv, west of the city, high-precision weaponry allegedly targeted Ukrainian army training facilities on Sunday.

It was only 30 kilometres (19 miles) to the Polish border when the Lviv Starychi area was attacked.

Prior to this week’s G7 conference, Ukraine was being intimidated, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

On June 5th, a railway maintenance facility was hit by a significant Russian missile attack on Kiev.

Since its invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, Russia has become increasingly isolated due to extensive sanctions.

Despite heavy Ukrainian resistance, Russia has made considerable progress in the east after suffering significant early setbacks. On Saturday, it ultimately conquered Severodonetsk, a now-destroyed city.

Despite Kyiv’s soldiers being outnumbered by Russian artillery and missiles, military analysts claim that the industrial eastern Donbas region is currently engaged in a war of attrition. Kyiv has once more requested the West to expedite the shipping of heavy weapons.

At the G7 summit in Bavaria, French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson mingled. “They agreed this is a key point for the trajectory of the battle, and there is an opportunity to shift the tide of the war,” a representative for Mr. Johnson said.

They decided to continue providing military aid to Ukraine, and Mr. Johnson emphasised that any attempt to resolve the situation at this time would only serve to “give licence” to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The price of Russia winning was “much higher,” he claimed, adding that authorities needed to be open about the war’s mounting costs.

The G7’s host, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, stated that the group’s unanimity on Ukraine was a direct message to Mr. Putin.

Our shared worldview, as well as our adherence to the democratic and legal systems, he remarked.
