Collector G S Sameeran resorted to Twitter on Wednesday to warn the public about impostors who formed a bogus WhatsApp account in his name to solicit money via Amazon Pay voucher.

The ID was constructed using his photograph and cell phone number (8788019763), according to the collector. “The issue was taken to the notice of the city police’s cyber cell and a case was registered. Scamsters had earlier involved in similar activity by posing as senior government officials. Police will take action against such people,” he said
The cyber cell has initiated an investigation into the event, according to the city’s police commissioner V Balakrishnan, who encouraged the public to be aware of such con artists. “We have gathered information about a criminal network functioning in north India. A police team will be dispatched to arrest the mastermind,” he said.
