The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issues a public statement in response to reports about a new Domain Name System (DNS) for the country. The telecom authority states that it will not establish centralized DNS control, instead relying on Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to handle DNS resolution.

PTA further notes that under PECA 37, the authority is only automating the blocking of illicit content from the Internet. The automated blocking was previously in existence, but the automation process was enhanced at the ISP level using domain name resolution to boost its effectiveness.

According to PTA, this was accomplished by collaborating closely with Pakistani ISPs such as Nayatel, PTCL, and others.

Last but not least, PTA claims that this move will have no impact on internet costs or speeds, and that it will have no impact on customer privacy. It will have no impact on the current Content Delivery Networks system (CDNs). All claims in the media claiming otherwise are untrue, and all speculation about it should be put to rest.
