For “repairs,” Russia has cut off gas supplies to Europe

  • Gazprom’s decision to cut supplies of natural gas to Europe via the Nord Stream pipeline was “political”.
  • Gazprom announced Tuesday it would be cutting deliveries via the pipeline by around 40 percent.
  • The move is due to the “repair” of compressor units by German company Siemens.

Due to the “maintenance” of compressor units by German company Siemens; Gazprom declared on Tuesday that deliveries via the pipeline would be decreased by roughly 40%.

The decision by Russian energy giant Gazprom to halt natural gas supplies; to Europe via the Nord Stream pipeline was “political”; according to Germany’s economy minister on Wednesday. At a news conference, Economy Minister Robert Habeck stated that Gazprom’s move was “a political decision; not a technically justifiable decision.”

Germany is aware of the need to service the pipeline, but “the first set of maintenance activities; when this would have become significant will not take place until autumn,” according to Habeck.

Those works, on the other hand, would not justify a cut “on the order of 40%;” according to Habeck.
