ISLAMABAD: In the ongoing budget session in the National Assembly, the opposition has submitted the motion to cut the budgets of eight ministries.

As per sources privy to the matter, the opposition members have submitted the motion for budget cuts to the cabinet secretariat.

The details revealed that the cuts have been submitted for the ministries of energy, communications, foreign affairs, information and broadcasting, interior affairs, counter-narcotics and railways.

The opposition has claimed the cuts in the budget in the mentioned ministries due to low performance.

Notably, a budget of Rs 9,502 billion for the fiscal year 2022-23 was presented by Finance Minister Miftah Ismail.

In the budget of the current financial year, the tax collections have been estimated at Rs. 7,004 billion while the deficit is Rs. 4,598 billion. The budget has allocated Rs 1,523 billion for defense, Rs 808 billion for development works and Rs 3,950 billion for interest payments.

On the other hand, a Rs1.7 trillion budget for Sindh was presented by CM Murad Ali Shah. Murad announced 15 percent increase in the salaries of government employees and five percent in pensions, adding that no new tax was enforced in the budget.

The total expenditures in the current fiscal year will be 1,679,734.8 rupees. The province is facing a deficit of 33.848 billion rupees. Total revenue collection will be Rs 1,679,734.8 billion.

Around 1.055 Billion rupees were transferred by the federal government and provincial receipts of Rs 374.5 billion were presented.
