Johnny Depp Could Sue Amber Heard Again Following Latest Interview

  • Johnny Depp could sue Amber Heard again over her latest interview.
  • A legal expert has suggested that the accusation could lead to a third lawsuit.
  • Heard’s lawyers have already stated that she cannot pay the original judgment.

Johnny Depp could sue Amber Heard once again following her latest interview, a legal expert has suggested.

Depp, 58, sued his ex-wife Heard, 36, in a defamation case for $50 million (£38.2 million) over domestic abuse charges she made in a 2018 piece in The Washington Post, and she counterclaimed for $100 million (£76.4 million).

Despite the fact that the story did not name Depp, his lawyers said it implied that he physically and sexually abused the Aquaman actor while they were together.

Depp was granted $15 million (£12.53 million) in damages after the jury found that what Heard wrote in her op-ed essay was defamatory.

In her first interview since the trial, Heard stated that she will stand by every word she said throughout her testimony until the day she dies.

Heard was asked the following questions by host Savannah Guthrie in the interview, which will be released in its entirety later this week: “He said he never hit you. Is that a lie?”

Heard replied: “Yes it is.”

According to Nicole Haff of Romano Law, a New York-based celebrity lawyer, the accusation might result in Depp suing Heard again.

Asked whether Depp could sue again over the interview, Haff told: “Yes. This interview could count as a new ‘publication’ under the law, which could spur a third lawsuit.”

Haff cautioned, however, that it might not be worth Depp’s time to pursue legal action against Heard.

“Heard’s lawyers have already stated that she cannot pay the original judgment,” she said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Heard said the trial made her feel ‘less than human’.

Describing the swathes of Depp fans lining the entrance to the Virginia court house, Heard said: “Every single day I passed three, four, sometimes six blocks, city blocks, lined with people holding signs saying: ‘burn the witch’, ‘death to Amber’.

“After three-and-a-half weeks I took to the stand and saw just a courtroom packed, full, of Captain Jack Sparrow fans who were vocal.”

According to a spokesman for Heard, she took part in the interview to offer her perspective and correct a coverage imbalance.

In a statement shared, they said: “Johnny Depp’s legal team blanketed the media for days after the verdict with numerous statements and interviews on television, and Depp himself did the same on social media.

“Ms. Heard simply intended to respond to what they aggressively did last week; she did so by expressing her thoughts and feelings, much of which she was not allowed to do on the witness stand.”

After meeting on the set of the 2011 film The Rum Diary, Depp and Heard began dating and married in 2015. The following year, Heard got a restraining order against Depp, and the couple divorced in 2017.

Depp lost a libel case against The Sun in 2020 over an article in which he was referred to as a “wife beater.”

All charges of abuse have been denied by him.
