- The rule will end for US-bound international travelers beginning at 12:01 a.m. ET on June 12.
- Most non-US citizens must still be vaccinated to travel to the country.
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it will reassess the rule if the Covid-19 situation changes.
The US is eliminating its long-standing rule; that all passengers entering the nation submit a negative Covid-19 test just as summer heats up. The announcement provides a communal sigh of relief; as well as the prospect of an influx of new foreign passengers to an already hectic summer season. For many American tourists, this change means they won’t have to worry about the difficulty of testing before coming home; or the cost and inconvenience of remaining overseas to quarantine; and wait for a negative test result if a pre-travel test is positive.

Meanwhile, overseas tourists planning vacations to the United States; don’t have to worry about having to cancel due to a positive test. Most non-US nationals still need to get vaccinated before entering the country. The travel sector, which has been hammered recently; is ecstatic that the barrier between both categories of potential clients has been removed.
