PRAGUE – Czech police announced on Friday that they had seized 840 kilogrammes of cocaine disguised in supermarket banana boxes.

Supermarket employees in two locations, Jicin and Rychnov nad Kneznou, had discovered bars of cocaine in the boxes and reported them.

Police said they had checked other locations where the shipment’s crates had landed up.

The cartons were reportedly transported from Colombia, according to Czech state television.

“Detectives have seized 840 kilogrammes of cocaine in all locations searched so far,” police said in a tweet.

“At a price of 3,000 koruna ($128) per gramme, dealers would have received almost two billion koruna ($85 million) from the haul in the final distribution,” they claimed.

The national narcotics squad has initiated an inquiry, and police have stated that they would seek international assistance.
