Sarah Goldberg, star of “Barry,” will star in an IFC dark comedy series

  • Sarah Goldberg was nominated for an Emmy for her work on Barry.
  • She’ll play half-sisters from Canada and Ireland road trip to find their drunken father.
  • The six-episode series will be shown on IFC and streamed on Sundance Now.

Sarah Goldberg and Stanley said in a statement, “We are thrilled to be making Sisters, a character-driven comedic drama about how the absence of a parent in childhood can affect life in your thirties, and the macabre humour that can come with trauma.”

IFC general manager Blake Callaway added, “Sisters made me want one. The messy bonds of friendship and family are a perfect fit for IFC and Sundance Now’s unique mix of slightly off comedies. Sarah and Susan have found so much humor among the wreckage of flawed, failed, and absent parenting. These siblings and their breakout creators are going to be just fine.”

IFC, like many other cable networks, has drastically reduced its original programming output in recent years. Sisters’ renewal comes after the revelation that season four of Documentary Now!, a critical favourite, will broadcast later in 2022; season two of Sherman’s Showcase, which will run on both IFC and sister network AMC, is also in the works.

Sisters is a co-production between Ireland and Canada. The series is produced by Peer Pressure and Shaftesbury in collaboration with Mermade and Gaze Pictures. The first three episodes will be directed by Declan Lowney (Ted Lasso). The show is now filming in Ireland and will complete in late June, allowing Goldberg to return to HBO’s Barry for season four.

UTA, Mosaic, B-Side Management, and Hansen Jacobson represent Goldberg. The Lisa Richards Agency represents Stanley.
