Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe spoke with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, about the country’s economic problems, as per a statement released by the prime minister’s office on Wednesday.

The talks, which took place on Tuesday, came after Sri Lanka resolved to seek IMF help to deal with the current crisis and restructure its foreign obligations after the government froze all external debt repayments on April 12.

The IMF managing director committed help to Sri Lanka during these trying times, according to the prime minister’s office.

Sri Lanka is currently experiencing one of its greatest economic crises, with a currency shortage causing a dearth of basic goods such as food, medication, and fuel.
