Saturday’s opening half goals for Oldham were scored by Oscar Barker and Maxwell Newton.
After halftime, Ordsall Junior’s number 12 scored two goals in rapid succession, but Maxwell Newton scored the game-winning goal late in the second half.
AFC Oldham has lauded the children’s “excellent team spirit” and “tenacity” for their potential to spark a renaissance in junior football in Oldham.
The club wrote on Facebook: “The smiles on the faces of both the children and parents at the end of the game is the reason we are committed to bringing junior football back to AFC Oldham.”
The junior squad has been training together for months, but their new coach, Anthony Hall, has only been with them for a few weeks. Hall began coaching the team in May.
Reacting to the victory, Mr. Hall said: “While at this age and level the result and scoreline don’t really matter, to see the smiles on the player’s faces at full time was fantastic.

“We have such a great set of players here with brilliant attitudes.
“They are always wanting to learn and develop whilst continuously putting in the effort and looking after each other, which are great characteristics to have.
“The win on Saturday was our first and will be a great confidence booster for the players moving forward.”
