KARACHI: Unannounced and recurring power outages in Karachi have added to the miseries of the already inflation-hit nation as the electricity shortfall has reached up to 500 megawatts (MW).
BOL News reported that the residents of the metropolitan city have been braving electricity load shedding for up to 14 hours daily.
As per details, the demand for electricity in Karachi has reached 3,100 MW while K-Electric has been supplying 2,750 MW of power.
The K-Electric spokesperson said that the supply of 2,750 MW also includes 1000MW produced by National Grid station.
The unannounced load shedding has continued to pile miseries on people amid scorching weather as the supply of water is also hindered in many areas.
Reports pouring in from different areas disclosed that Surjani Town, Godhra, New Karachi, Lyari, Orangi Town, Korangi, Baldia and Landhi are the most affected ones from the recurring power outages.
Earlier, a three-member committee was formed to present a detailed report to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over the power crisis in the country.
Notably, former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the power cuts would be reduced to 3.5 hours from June 7 and announced that from June 16 it would be further reduced to 3 hours.
“By June 30, the duration will be less than two hours,” he added.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired an emergency conference regarding recent power outages in the country. The unannounced load shedding in different residential areas of Pakistan has made the lives of the citizens miserable. The PM expressed his infuriation over continuous power cuts.
