Thor: Love and Thunder, the third installment in the Thor franchise, has finally released its first trailer. Marvel unveiled the very first teaser of the much-anticipated film during the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards, setting the internet ablaze. The excerpt detailed the iconic encounter between Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor and Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder as they crossed paths once more.
The film, directed by Taika Waititi, will return Thor’s former flame Jane Foster, who will now wield the mighty hammer Mjolnir. Thor is calling out to his trustee hammer in the teaser, which was previously destroyed by his sister Hella in Thor: Ragnarok. Though the God of Thunder now fights with his new and improved weapon Stormbreaker, his roots may be traced back to his father’s gift of Mjolnir.

In the video, Thor reaches out to grasp a hovering Mjolnir during a battle, but the Mighty Thor intervenes and commands the hammer back into her hands. Jane Foster is shown at the end of the 20-second film wielding Mjolnir to launch herself off the ground and into the air.
Meanwhile, filmmaker Taika Waititi discussed the legendary moment with GamesRadar via Comicbook in an interview. “It’s also a lot of fun to think that Thor now possesses Stormbreaker, that massive axe, and his hammer is back in the hands of someone else.” He went on to say that the scene was in no way a true passing of the torch, “It’s no longer his hammer. It’s the idea that someone’s taking his place. I think a lot of fans are gonna potentially assume, ‘Oh, OK, this is the passing on of the torch’… I’m not privy to any plans Marvel has for the future, but I don’t think that’s the case.”
