Ukraine has a real chance to stop importing gas entirely by boosting its own output, including biogas. According to some sources, Serhiy Makogon, CEO of Gas Transmission System Operator Ukraine of Ukraine LLC (Gas TSO of Ukraine), announced this on Facebook.
“Ukraine has a very large potential for biogas production – up to 8 billion cubic meters of biogas per year. This is a very ambitious goal for the next 10 years. But 0.5 billion cubic meters of biogas in two years is quite real,” he said.

Makogon mentioned Denmark as an example, where biomethane (biogas converted to methane grade) accounts for 27% of the gas in the networks, with a consistent rise over the last five to six months. Denmark plans to have a 100% “green” gas grid in place by 2030-2035.
