“With [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer riding high on Tom Cruise’s great success in Top Gun: Maverick, there is a huge desire for bringing back bankable Hollywood actors in immensely successful series,” says the insider.

Depp made his feature debut as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003. The successful sequels were released in 2006, 2007, 2011, and 2017.

Another Hollywood insider feels Depp’s comeback is “not very likely,” adding that Depp will “return as a star, but they’d probably do Pirates 6 with Margot Robbie or someone similar.”
