Almost a quarter of the world’s internet users live in countries with internet infrastructure; that is more vulnerable to targeted attacks; according to a large-scale study conducted by scientists at the University of California San Diego.

A total of 75 countries were assessed by computer professionals. The findings were presented at the Passive and Active Measurement Conference 2022 which was held entirely online.
“We wanted to look at the Internet’s structure to determine whether there were any weak links that; if compromised, could expose a whole nation’s traffic.” “A substantial section of the Internet does not function with peering contracts for network connectivity,” stated Alexander Gamero-Garrido; the paper’s first author, in a press statement.
