The death toll from torrential rains in the northeastern state of Pernambuco had risen to 56, official stated Sunday.
According to the local Civil Defense, 56 people are still missing, and almost 4,000 have been evacuated as a result of the floods and landslides triggered by the severe rains.

Recife City, the capital of northeastern Pernambuco State, has been hit the worst, with more than 30 people killed.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said on Twitter that he will travel to Recife on Monday to inspect the situation.

Local governments in nine municipalities in Pernambuco have declared a state of emergency.
