Georgia election Results: Today’s key primaries in numerous US states will pit high-profile Republican candidates against each other, with some hoping to defeat rivals sponsored by Donald Trump.
In Georgia, incumbent Governor Brian Kemp is destined to easily defeat his main opponent, Trump endorsee and former senator David Perdue, whose campaign has failed to take fire despite the ex-loud president’s interventions. Mr Kemp has being campaigned for by Mike Pence.
Meanwhile, the nomination of controversial ex-footballer Herschel Walker, a very popular grassroots figure whose often erratic behaviour, business dealings, and history of personal difficulties have alarmed some Republicans, is practically assured in the state’s GOP senate primary. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is also on the ballot, and her grassroots popularity and tremendous campaign money are expected to give her a clean route to re-election.
In Alabama, despite losing Mr. Trump’s endorsement early this year, Congressman Mo Brooks appears to be mounting a comeback in the Republican senate contest. He was slipping in the polls at the time, and he also urged his followers to “move on” from the 2020 election, triggering Mr Trump’s derision.
