All routes to be opened tomorrow, PM Shehbaz directs authorities

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday decided to open all routes leading to the federal capital tomorrow (March 25) as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is all set to commence its long march.

In a meeting, the premier said that the government will ensure securing the lives and livelihood of people, adding that the PTI rally is meant to destroy the economy of the country. “Only a daily wage labourer will be disturbed by the rally,” he said.

The premier, in the meeting, said that there will no compromise on the writ of the government. “We will stop any unlawful activity with all might by taking legal actions against any miscreant.” PM Shehbaz warned that law will take its due course in case of any hate speech or violence, adding that the judicial verdicts will be implemented in all its letter and spirit.

The Islamabad administration has decided to deploy 22 thousand law enforcers to tackle the PTI long march and called extra police force from other provinces including 8000 personnel from Punjab, 2000 from Sindh, 4000 from Rangers, 2000 FC personnel besides 500 policewomen have also been called.

1500 tear gas shells will be procured and 100 prisoner vans have also been summoned.

After the consultation with the police high-ups, the administration has sent these proposals to the Ministry of Interior.

Earlier on Sunday, former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Imran Khan announced that they would hold a Long March on Islamabad on May 25.

He appealed to the nation and all walks of life to join the march.

He further said that he was inviting the whole nation including youth, students, women, businessmen, ex-servicemen and all walks of life to join the Azadi March to save Pakistan.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan made this announcement at a press conference after concluding a meeting of the PTI’s core committee in Peshawar on Sunday.

The PTI chairman said that he would arrive in Islamabad on May 25 and meet his workers and supporters at 3 pm at Srinagar Highway.

The former prime minister was flanked by several PTI leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Mahmood Khan.

At the beginning of the press briefing, he said that under his rule, every sector industry and agriculture and IT had been making progress but his government was toppled under a foreign conspiracy.

He added that the country was sustainable course when a United States-backed conspiracy had been hatched with the help of the previous Opposition to eliminate his government.
