Lyon (France): Five people were killed in a tourist plane crash in the French Alps on Saturday, including four members of the same family, according to rescue officials.
The crash occurred in the afternoon, shortly after takeoff from the Versoud airstrip near Grenoble in southeast France, for a half-hour flight.
Eyewitnesses to the crash alerted authorities, who discovered the dead of four adults and a child within the plane’s burnt-out wreckage.
To put out the fire, some 60 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
According to regional officials, Grenoble prosecutors have requested an investigation into what occurred.
